What is Trichology?

Trichology is the science of the scalp and hair — a specialist branch of dermatology that focuses on diagnosing and supporting conditions such as hair thinning, breakage, excessive shedding, dandruff, and inflammatory scalp disorders.

At Sith Spa, trichology is more than a surface treatment. It’s a detailed and compassionate exploration of the root causes behind your concerns. As a qualified nurse with over 20 years of clinical experience, I bring a deep understanding of human health, pathology, and anatomy into every consultation. This medical foundation allows me to assess your hair and scalp not only externally but through a lens of systemic health, ensuring nothing important is overlooked.

What to Expect from a Trichology Consultation

A trichology consultation at Sith Spa is holistic, in-depth, and entirely personalised. We take time to get a full picture of your hair and scalp concerns — not only how they appear on the surface, but what might be driving them from within.

Your appointment includes:

  • Comprehensive Health History: Drawing on my nursing background, I conduct a full review of your medical history, lifestyle, stress levels, hormonal factors, and family history to look for deeper patterns.
  • Scalp & Hair Examination: Using specialist tools and visual magnification, we analyse the scalp and follicles — assessing sebum levels, inflammation, hair density, and overall scalp environment.
  • Lifestyle & Nutrition Review: Your body reflects how you live and what you fuel it with. We’ll look at your diet, sleep, stress, and self-care practices to identify areas that may be affecting your scalp and hair.
  • Tailored Plan of Care: You’ll receive a bespoke plan that may include clinical scalp treatments, topical product guidance, nutritional or supplement support, and — where appropriate — blood or fatty acid testing to get deeper insight.

Ongoing reviews allow us to monitor your progress and adjust your care in real time, supporting long-term improvements rather than quick fixes.

The Science Behind It

Hair is often a reflection of internal health. Factors such as hormone imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, chronic stress, and inflammatory conditions can all impact scalp function and follicle activity. As a nurse-trained trichologist, I take a full-body, systems-based approach to investigating these links.

Scientific principles we work with:

  • Hair as an early warning system: Because hair is non-essential for survival, the body prioritises other systems under stress — making hair one of the first places where health issues manifest.
  • Microbiome & Barrier Function: A healthy scalp requires a balanced microbiome and strong barrier. Disruption can lead to irritation, inflammation, or reduced growth.
  • Circulation & Nutrient Transport: Hair follicles rely on blood flow to deliver nutrients, hormones, and oxygen. If any part of that delivery system is impaired, growth is affected.

Our clinic merges medical insight with holistic wellness to treat not just the symptom, but the cause. With the combined knowledge of nursing and trichology, you’re in safe, experienced hands — and every consultation is built on care, clarity, and clinical integrity.
